Set Out to Beat Your Own Speed

X Speed Race is a free to play game that boasts cool graphics and plenty of cars to choose from. Is this enough to make the game great, or is it seriously lacking? Read the full review to find out.

Imagine a racing game where there were no other racers, no real objective and pretty terrible music in the background. That is essentially what players of X Speed Race are presented with. Sure, the graphics are not bad at all and the selection of cars is pretty cool, but this really isn’t enough to get the adrenaline pumping.

But wait! Players are given the chance to play against the computer and try to beat their scores. Dull, dull, dull. Considering how many different racing games there are on the gaming market complete with missions and plenty of action, this game probably doesn’t even make it into the top fifty.

To be fair, the cars that are presented here have been created in a lot of detail and this is probably the game’s main selling point. naturally, gamers will have the chance to customise their cars as they move through the game and gain points to purchase bigger and badder cars whenever they want. But without any real opponents, there is no real drive to keep competing and coming back for more.

The addition of a multiplayer mode would certainly help add to the supposed drama of the game. Fortunately, the game controls are very easy to use and it doesn’t take too long to figure out what to do. When it comes to the actual driving experience, it is nowhere near as realistic as the cars themselves and the physics seem to be off somewhere. Controls are limited to the keyboard, which also makes the experience feel more remote and less engaging than it could be.

X Speed Race isn’t a terrible racing game, but it certainly leaves a lot to be desired. the lack of opponents to race against as well as a multiplayer mode means that games are forced to drive along an empty track with the only real objective being trying to beat their own time and score points that ultimately can’t be used for anything.

Pros

  • Amazing graphics
  • Realistically created cars
  • The controls are easy to use

Cons

  • The driving experience is a bit off
  • Unrealistic collisions
  • No multiplayer mode
  • The music is terrible
